Epic announces the Epic Games store

Outlined in an article by Tim Sweeney the Epic Games store is set to operate on a set of clearly defined principles that offer developers a clear upside for using it.

The headline principle is that Developers will receive 88% of revenue with no tiers based on income thresholds. Epic just takes 12% and Unreal Engine powered games will also see their 5% engine royalty covered within that.

Within the article Tim points out that Unreal Engine games on Steam give 30% to Valve as well as 5% to Epic.

It won't be Unreal Engine exclusive either with the inital crop of games powered not only by Unreal but Unity and internal engines too.

Thanks to Fortnite, Epic have been able to build a model that processes payments, provides bandwidth and customer support efficiently and that by just taking 12% they will succeed when you succeed.
