The Witcher IV Tech Demo Shows off what's new in Unreal Engine 5.6

The State of Unreal finished up yesterday and gave the audience and viewers an upcoming preview of features being "battle-tested" and those being released to developers to help them build awesome Unreal Engine powered experiences.

This year's show kicked off with a technical demo that has been worked on with CD PROJEKT RED. The demo was a chance to show off some of the tech which will be powering the new Witcher saga along side some of the major upgrades coming to Unreal Engine in version 5.6.

When Unreal Engine 5 was launched three years, CD PROJEKT RED annouced that they would be developing the next installment of The Witcher series on the game engine which would kick off a new saga in the franchise. This was alongside a technology partnership with Epic Games with the goal to bring large open-world support to the engine.

The demo provides a look at a number of Unreal Engine 5.6 and future release features. Features such as ML Deformer and Nanite Foliage (which will be released with Unreal Engine 5.7).

The goal of 5.6 is to allow developers to create large-scale open worlds that can run at 60 FPS on current gen consoles (the demo was shown running on a standard PS5), high-end PCs and modern mobile devices.
